Terms of Service

Introduction

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the ComicFrame mobile app and this website ("ComicFrame", "we", "our" or "us"). By downloading, installing or using ComicFrame, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

The Service

ComicFrame identifies comics from their covers using your phone's camera. It shows the matching issue with its editions and variants, estimates the market value of copies in different conditions and grades where price data is available, and lets you organise the issues you own into collections whose total value the app tracks over time. You can also set your own price for a comic and keep a reading log, both stored only on your device. Scanning, prices and collections need an internet connection.

No Account Needed

You do not need to create an account. The app links your collections to a device identifier, as described in our Privacy Policy. Because there is no account, we may not be able to recover your collections or move them to another device if that identifier is lost, for example after you reset or replace your phone. You can delete your data at any time in Settings → Privacy → Delete My Data.

Free Version and Premium

ComicFrame is free to download. The free version includes a limited number of scans with prices per day (usually more on your first day), one collection and the reading log. The scan allowance resets every 24 hours. Once you reach it, you can keep scanning, but the prices of issues identified after that point stay hidden until you upgrade to Premium. We may change the free allowances.

ComicFrame Premium removes the scan limit and shows the prices hidden by the free allowance, and unlocks unlimited collections (subject to fair-use limits that protect our servers), the total value of your collections with its history chart, and export of your collections and reading log. Price data is not available for every issue, edition or condition.

Purchases and Subscriptions

Premium is available as:

  • Weekly subscription — renews every week
  • Annual subscription — renews every year
  • Lifetime purchase — a single payment that does not renew

A subscription may include a free trial or an introductory offer. The price, billing period and any trial are shown in the app and by the App Store or Google Play before you confirm a purchase. Prices can differ between countries and may change; a price change never applies to a period you have already paid for.

Subscription terms

  • Payment is charged to your Apple ID or Google account when you confirm the purchase, or when a free trial ends
  • Subscriptions renew automatically unless auto-renewal is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period
  • Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period
  • You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your App Store or Google Play account settings
  • Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription
  • Any unused part of a free trial ends when you buy a subscription
  • Free trials and introductory offers are available only to eligible users, as decided by the App Store or Google Play — usually once per account
  • You can restore earlier purchases on a new installation with "Restore" in the app

Payments and refunds

All payments are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play under their terms. We never receive or store your payment card details. Refunds are handled by the store you bought from — Apple for iOS and Google Play for Android — and we cannot process them ourselves. This does not affect any rights you have under the consumer law of your country.

Prices and Recognition

Prices shown in ComicFrame are estimates based on market data. They may be incomplete or out of date, may differ from what a dealer or buyer would pay, and are provided for information only. They are not an offer to buy or sell, not an appraisal or certification, and not financial advice. Check an issue's value independently before you buy, sell, insure or trade it.

Prices you enter yourself are your own estimates. The app marks them as your price, keeps them only on your device and includes them in the totals it shows you, but they are not market data.

Recognition can be affected by lighting, glare, sleeves, wear, and editions that look alike. Always confirm the issue and edition the app suggests before relying on it.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the app for any unlawful purpose
  • Reverse engineer, decompile or modify the app, except where the law allows it
  • Send automated requests that overload our servers or bypass their access controls, or resell price data from the app
  • Interfere with, overload, or try to bypass the usage limits or security of the app or the services behind it

Intellectual Property and Data Sources

The ComicFrame app, its design, software and original content belong to us and are protected by intellectual property laws.

Catalogue data in ComicFrame includes material from the Grand Comics Database and Metron, licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0 and adapted by normalising and merging records across sources. See Settings → Data sources in the app. That catalogue data remains available under CC BY-SA 4.0, our adaptations of it are shared under the same licence, and nothing in these Terms limits the rights that licence gives you.

Comic titles, characters, logos and cover images are the property of their respective publishers and rights holders, and are shown in the app only to identify issues. The names of grading companies, such as CGC, CBCS and PGX, belong to their owners. ComicFrame is not affiliated with, endorsed or sponsored by any comic publisher or grading company.

Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used and how you can delete it.

Changes to the App

We may update, change or remove features, catalogue content and price sources, and the app may sometimes be unavailable, for example during maintenance.

Disclaimers

The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that the issue data and prices it shows will be complete, current or accurate.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, including loss of profits, data, goodwill or other intangible losses, arising out of your use of — or inability to use — the app, including any decision made on the basis of a price it showed.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Termination

We may suspend or end your access to the app if you breach these Terms. You may stop using the app at any time by uninstalling it.

Changes to These Terms

We may change these Terms. We will post the revised Terms on this page with a new "Last updated" date. If you continue to use the app after a change, you accept the revised Terms.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the country in which the app's developer is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. This does not take away the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country in which you live.

Apple App Store Terms

If you downloaded ComicFrame from the App Store, your use of the app is also governed by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement. You acknowledge that:

  • These Terms are between you and us, not Apple, and Apple is not responsible for the app or its content
  • Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for the app
  • Apple is not responsible for addressing any claims by you or a third party relating to the app
  • Apple is not responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement or discharge of any third-party intellectual property infringement claim
  • You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them

Google Play Terms

If you downloaded ComicFrame from Google Play, these Terms apply in addition to the Google Play Terms of Service, and purchases are subject to Google Play's payment and refund policies.
